Go Organic, But With Polish

I had an epiphany today about marketing styles. If your focus is on organic marketing that is trying to seem genuine, you still need to polish it up. Like any good craftsman, even if you are building something that is supposed to look rough hewn, you still have to knock off the sharp corners.

For example, I have a client that is selling franchises in a very competitive industry. The main selling message is that he has the knowledge and connections that come from years of actually succeeding in his line of work. He has a series of videos consisting of him talking to the camera. He really knows his stuff, has a great manner on camera, and stays on topic. Even with all his natural talent, he still has me to "knock the corners off" with tighter editing, help with script outlines, and a plan to get his message out on the right platforms. I am very excited to work with him, as he has a great story to tell.

My point is that even if you decide to do DIY marketing, you still need someone to help you polish the final product and get it distributed. Or you might need someone to tell you the hard truth, that you shouldn't be handling your marketing by yourself. At the very least, get someone you trust to proofread your copy, preferably a person outside the organization.

Is this a sales pitch to hire a marketing agency, perhaps even mine? Yeah, kinda. But I also see too much bad but earnest marketing out there and it makes me sad.

And this world needs more happiness right now.
